Gua Sha essentially gives the face a mini workout, by increasing circulation, thus increasing oxygen and nutrients to the surface, improving overall skin health.
Muscle Scraping
Essentially the gua sha is a scraping tool. Muscle scraping uses a specialized tool such as a Grafton tool or Gua Sha, to break up adhesions and scar tissue within the fascia. This allows for increased blood flow, oxygenation and nutrient exchange within the affected area, which can speed up healing and promote tissue regeneration.
A common name for muscle scraping is IASTM which stands for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. These tools are specially designed to effectively and gently manipulate the fascia, breaking down tissue adhesions and scar tissue.
Tight muscles restrict blood flow and retain lactic acid and other metabolic waste products that are toxic to the tissues. Scraping helps to flush out these toxins. Shortened and tight muscles and trigger points can create a pull on the fascial system.
